A message from the forest to you.

Hi! tomorrow, as part of UGM Trail Run, you will run through a forest. You will feel the trail beneath your feet, breathe the morning air, and experience the beauty of nature around you. I wish I could still offer the same to every forest.

I am a tree from West Kalimantan. I was planted with hope, cared for through the years, and grew alongside many others. Around me, there was life, wildlife seeking shelter, communities living nearby, and a forest slowly finding its way back.

Then, the fire came. Since August 3, 2026, forest and land fires (karhutla) have affected reforestation areas supported by ASRI in collaboration with the Gunung Palung National Park (TNGP). More than 100 hectares of reforestation areas have been affected, impacting more than 300,000 planted tree seedlings. Some of us were burned. Some were damaged. And the forest we were helping to rebuild now needs to begin again.

But I am not asking you to feel sorry for me. I am asking you to remember me. While you prepare for your run tomorrow, there are people in West Kalimantan walking through smoke and heat to protect what remains. ASRI and its partners continue responding to the fires, supporting the health and safety of frontline teams and communities, protecting wildlife, and preparing the land for recovery.

Tomorrow, when your feet touch the trail, perhaps you will remember that every forest has a story and every step we take can help shape what comes next. You run for the experience. You learn because you care. And perhaps, you can leave something behind that helps a forest grow again.

If you would like to be part of my journey back to the forest, your contribution can help ASRI continue the response and recovery efforts in West Kalimantan.

Will you help me grow again?
